Artists: The NexGen Arts Committee is seeking muralists to create site-specific works of art throughout Yuma County. Muralists must have prior experience working on large scale public art projects. Through public art, NexGen strives to create a deepened sense of community pride for Yumans, while at the same time attracting visitors to invest in our community. Murals will also be promoted and featured on an interactive website designed for local community members and area visitors to follow self-guided tours of murals and all public art in the area. This program is supported by the Arizona Community Foundation of Yuma and the City of Yuma.
Businesses: The NexGen Arts Committee is looking for commercial property owners who are interested in donating exterior wall spaces in high traffic areas. Selected properties will have the opportunity to host a mural and participate in this community-wide public art project.
Public art has the power to transform a community. It’s a positive way to impact a neighborhood, providing a work of beauty for all to enjoy. Public art sparks conversation, builds community respect, and creates a welcoming environment.
The NexGen Arts Committee was formed in 2017 to enhance arts engagement in Yuma. With the Mural-A-Month project, the committee will commission 12 site-specific murals throughout Yuma – one a month for 2018. Through public art, we strive to create a deepened sense of community pride for Yumans, while at the same time attracting visitors to invest in our community.
